Shipping Instructions
For a DHP Element Autopsy

RO Units
Most RO units have 2 stages of pressure vessels containing 1-8 elements (4 shown). There are also single stage and 3-stage systems. A 2-stage unit is shown.

Which Element to Send

1. 1st Element, 1st Stage. If your RO Unit has:

a. High pressure drop across the 1st stage
b. High conductivity permeate from the 1st stage
c. Cartridge filters are plugging too rapidly
d. You suspect biofouling, polymer fouling or particle fouling

2. Last Element, Last Stage. If your RO Unit has:

a. High pressure drop across the last stage
b. High conductivity permeate from the last stage
c. You suspect scaling

3. 1st and Last Element from the stage having a problem.

a. If you want to identify the extent of the problem

4. Don’t Know Which Element To Send?

Pulling & Packaging

1. Pull the element and drain on end for 20-30 minutes

2. Bag the element (DO NOT ADD ANY PRESERVATIVE or OTHER CHEMICAL!)

a. Bag within 30 minutes so the element doesn’t dry out
b. Heavy duty plastic and duct tape are OK IF:

i. The element has drained for 20-30 minutes
ii. You completely wrap the outside of the plastic with paper towels

1. Water WILL leak from the plastic and duct tape
2. Your shipping company may return to you if the container is leaking

c. An original element shipping box is OK to use if you’ve added lots of paper towels

Shipping

1. Ship the same day that the element is pulled

a. Refrigerate or keep cool if impossible to ship same day
b. Do not allow the element to freeze

2. If possible, ship Overnight Delivery (preserves any biofouling and minimizes new growth)

a. FedEx or UPS are both excellent
b. Ship to arrive at DHP on the date you scheduled for ARRIVAL

i. If the element arrives late, this will likely greatly impact the date you receive the report

3. Expedited Services

a. Same as above except the element MUST ARRIVE at DHP on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (no Friday delivery).
